About DreadKnot

Why DreadKnot exists

DreadKnot Juice Press started from a mismatch most teachers will recognize. In our classrooms we’re asked to differentiate, scaffold, check for understanding, and keep students engaged. Then we walk into professional development and sit through a presentation that does none of those things. The content may matter, but the delivery often leans on passive presentations, unexplained jargon, rushed pacing, and activities designed to prove attendance rather than build understanding.

How we design

We don’t think lectures, readings, or workshops are the problem. Any of them can work when they’re designed around how adults actually learn. The question we keep asking is whether an experience helps teachers understand and use what’s being taught. When a game, a story, or a practical challenge does that better, we build one. When a clear explanation does it better, we write one.

What we’re building now

Right now our work centers on Student Learning Objectives. The SLO Boot Camp is in development, and its first game, The Planning Period, is free to play in early access. Ààbò, a quieter experience for teachers who support students carrying heavy stuff, is also in development.
